After working for 16 years in some leading marketing agencies on some big brands, I was made redundant. As we had a small child I decided to go it alone to work more flexibly and Side of the Hill was born in 2009.
The name 'Side of the Hill' stems from my surname. My husband is from Lancashire and in the language of old Lancashire we believe this means ‘Colours on the Side of the Hill’. I thought that was perfect for a design business name and unique to me!
I could be on the ‘Top of the Hill’ or even a mountain, but this wouldn’t reflect the heritage of my surname and I wanted a creative name with a double meaning. People often ask why 'Side of the Hill' and they are always interested in the story behind the name.
Having worked on some big brands I was in a position to see brands from a higher view point (ie. on the side of a hill) and use that viewpoint and knowledge to grow smaller brands into larger ones through my skills in design and branding. I love working with these types of businesses and elevating their message to the world.
I’ve been doing this now for more years than I’d actually like to be reminded of, but you can do the maths!
